Aligning the Sidecar

Before you begin

The sidecar is an extension of the bicycle and may require some adjustments to facilitate rolling in a straight line. If you notice that the sidecar is not rolling straight and showing signs that it is out of alignment. This is resolved with the correct use of the spacers under the attachment plate. This guide is here to walk you through the steps on how to better the alignment of the sidecar and allow for a more enjoyable experience with your new ride.

Check the attachment plate

Check the attachment plate and make sure that it has the large spacer in front of the plate as shown below. You should have a second spacer placed between the top of the plate and the frame as well.  If the second spacer is not installed, please check your box.  It should be included with the sidecar hardware.

If you do not have a second large spacer please send us a message and we will be happy to help you out.  You will need to install the spacer once it arrives and place it under the plate at the top U-bolt location.

Once all parts are present complete the following steps

Loosen the U-bolts until the plate is free to move. Tighten the nuts enough to keep the attachment plate in place, but do not tighten them all the way down. The plate must be leveled before the nuts are tightened into place. If you do not own a level, we recommend downloading a leveling app on your smartphone.

Now that the plate is level, you can tighten the nuts on the U-bolts, but you need to tighten each nut partially. Move back and forth between each pair of nuts to ensure that each U-bolt is tightened evenly on both sides. Keep checking your level throughout this process to ensure that the attachment plate does not move out of proper alignment.

Establish the proper toe

There are two ways to visualize and alter the toe of your Easy Sidecar combo. Firstly, the arm of the top connection point that attaches the Sidecar to the side plate is adjustable and will alter the side-to-side angle of the Easy relative to the Sidecar. Extending the arm will tilt the Easy out and away from the Sidecar, and compressing it will tilt the Easy toward the Sidecar.

  • The ideal toe is that of the most verticle position.

The second way to adjust the toe of the Easy Sidecar combo is to make sure the SIdecar itself is aligned parallel to the Easy. The bottom two connection points that attach from the Sidecar chassis to the side plate facilitate this alignment. NOTE: Double-check that your spacers are correctly installed behind the front top and bottom C-clamps. Not having these in the correct locations will cause the nose of the Sidecar to face inward. With the Sidecar separated from the Easy, the toe of the Sidecar itself can be altered by rotating the shaft of the bottom two connection point eyelets. Once you have reached the desired length, use the nuts to lock each into place.

The only way to test your setup is to attach the Sidecar's chassis brackets to the side plate and remove them again if more alterations need to be made.

TIPS & TRICKS: Want to make sidecar maintenance easier? - Try adding a second set of hands! Both the easy and the sidecar tend to be fickle when lining up since they both want to tilt; adding a partner to help with repairs and installations takes the headache out of the process!
