Guard Against Corrosion and Rust

MOD Bikes are engineered and designed to be used in a variety of climates and conditions. As with any bike, the elements will have their effects on the e-bike and it's components if not properly cared for.

The Mayhem of Moisture

Most of our components are made of aluminum and stainless steel and are prone to rust and corrosion if not maintained properly. When aluminum and steel have repeated moisture damage the metals can fuse together.

Proper storage can help alleviate deterioration caused by the elements. We recommend storing your bike inside of your garage or home; if parked under an awning or portico, the bike can still meet the same fate as one sitting outside without a cover. We recommend purchasing a bike cover to keep the rain, dust and debris off the bike and its parts if stored outside.

Make sure you clean your bike regularly. Mud and dust speed up the corrosion process. Cleaning your bike regularly with soap and water is a great tactic to keeping your bike healthy for a long time. Be sure to dry your bike really well after cleaning. Your chain will be the first part of your bike to succumb to rust and corrosion due to weather. To prevent this, it is essential to keep your chain clean and ensure it is lubricated properly at all times. We highly recommend using Finish Line 1-Step Cleaner & Lubricant.

The Salty Saboteur

Beach riding can cause exposure to salt water and/ or salty breeze which can damage metal components over time and is not covered under the MOD Bikes warranty. If a MOD Bike shows clear corrosion or rust, then the warranty is void. Salty conditions can also get into your motor with ease. Salt speeds up the corrosion process for any part of your bike but can damage your motor in a very short amount of time.

Final Care Comments

While outlier events exist for everyone, it is important to keep a constant eye on your bike so issues don't always take you by surprise.  We recommend taking your MOD Bike into your bike shop every 500 miles, baring any unforeseen issues. Since you are the one spending the most time with your bike, it's also advantageous to learn how to do minor adjustments and common bicycle care to maximize your experience.
