Speedometer Issues

This manual was written to help you diagnose and resolve issues with the readout of your bike's speedometer. We always recommend that you have bike issues assessed by a professional technician, but most cases your bicycle's speedometer can be resolved by making one or two small adjustments.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Diagnosis

To take the proper steps to remedying your speedometer issues, first we have to identify the specific issue.

Speed Sensor Adjustment

The speed sensor for your bike is composed of two elements: (1) sensor, and (1) magnet. The magnet is located on one of the spokes of your rear wheel, and the sensor will be attached to the non drivetrain chain-stay. Most issue related to a faulty speed readout can be fixed by making sure that the magnet is in-line with the sensor.

If the sensor is not in-line with the magnet, use a flat-head screwdriver to loosen the magnet, and move it along the spoke until it is in-line with the middle of the speed sensor's tail. Once the magnet is in proper alignment, use your screwdriver to tighten it into place.

If the magnet and sensor are properly aligned and you still have no speedometer readout, it is possible that the sensor is too far from the magnet. This issue can be resolved by moving the sensor closer to the magnet by removing the sensor from it's mount, placing 1-2 small washers on the mount before replacing the sensor.

Settings Adjustment

Only a few settings within your display can effect your speedometer's performance. To access your settings menu, power on the bike, and then hold the '+' and '-' buttons until your display enters the settings menu.

The first setting to check will be the 'Wheel Diameter.' If your trip computer is expecting a rotation rate for a wheel that does not match, it can mess up the speedometer readout.

Use the '+' and '-' buttons to scroll down and highlight the "Wheel Diameter" setting, and then press the 'i' button to select it and proceed to the next screen. Use the '+' and '-' buttons to scroll through the various wheel sizes until the correct size is displayed.  Next, press the 'i' button to confirm your wheel size. When the display returns to the settings menu, press and hold the 'i' button to save your settings.

You will know that your settings have been saved when the screen displays 'OK', and then returns to the home screen.

If your bike has an S1 display (MOD City, City+, and Easy), then you will have an additional setting labeled 'Speed Sensor'. To access this, repeat the steps above to enter into the settings menu. Scroll down and select 'Speed Sensor'

If you own a MOD City or City+, this setting should be set to '6'.  If you own a MOD Easy, this setting should be set to '1'.  Use the '+', '-', and 'i' buttons to make the appropriate adjustment, and be sure to save your settings.

Further Troubleshooting

If adjusting the display settings and placement of the magnet does not work, it is possible that your bike has a faulty speed sensor, display, or controller. Diagnosing which part is not working requires special tools, and training, therefore we recommend bringing your bike in for professional diagnosis. If your display is showing an error code, please reference System Error Codes.
