MOD Dual Battery Kit | User Guide

In this article: You’ll learn how the MOD dual battery system works and how to install it on your MOD BIKE for extended range and reliability.

The MOD Dual Battery Kit extends your ride range. When it is connected, both batteries discharge simultaneously for maximum range and balanced performance. If you prefer to use one battery at a time, simply turn one battery off using its power switch (set to “O”) and keep the other turned on. When the active battery runs out, turn it off and switch the other battery on to continue riding.

Difficulty

★★☆ Medium

Estimated Time

25 - 40 Min

Before You Start

Tools you will need

  • 3mm Allen Wrench
  • Bolt Tray (or any small container for screws)

Preparation

  • Ensure your bike is powered off and standing securely on the kickstand.
  • Lay out the box contents.
  • Make sure you have good lighting and enough space to work around the bike.

Steps | MOD Easy

Step 1: Identify Box Contents

  • Dual Battery Kit (connector, battery housing, charger, hardware, and battery)

Step 2: Install the Second Battery Housing

  1. Locate the four screws on the underside of the tank where the battery housing will attach. Using a 3mm Allen wrench, remove all four screws.
  2. Position the battery housing in place with the cable pointing toward the rear, then insert the screws and tighten them securely.
  3. Finally, slide the housing backward as far as it will go to ensure the battery fits properly.

Note: The example shown is from the MOD Easy, where the mounting location is under the tank. On other models, the second battery housing may be located on the downtube or rear frame section—the installation process is the same.

Step 3: Disconnect the Main Battery

  1. Use your key to open the battery tank.
  2. Once open, use the battery key to unlock the battery from its housing.
  3. Carefully pull the battery forward to release it from the battery housing, then place it safely aside.

Step 4: Disconnect Main Battery Housing

  1. Use a 3mm Allen wrench to remove the screws securing the main battery housing.
  2. Take off the black plastic cover to expose the controller compartment.
  3. Feed the secondary battery housing cable through the frame opening and into the controller compartment.
  4. Unplug the main battery cables from the controller. Set the battery housing and plastic cover aside for reinstallation later.

Step 5: Connect the Dual Battery Connector

  1. Locate the Dual Battery Connector and identify the cables: IN (two plugs side by side) and OUT (single plug).
  2. Connect both battery housings to the two IN ports on the Dual Battery Connector.
  3. Connect the OUT cable from the Dual Battery Connector to the bike controller.
  4. Connect the small plug from the main battery housing into the matching small plug on the controller.

Step 6: Secure the Connector and Controller

  • Tuck the Dual Battery Connector and cables neatly inside the controller compartment.
  • Put the plastic cover back.

Step 7: Secure and Lock Main Battery

  1. Reinstall the battery housing and tighten the bolts using a 3 mm Allen wrench.
  2. Slide the battery housing as far back as possible to ensure proper battery fit.
  3. Insert the main battery into the housing by sliding it backward into place, then lock it using the key.
  4. Close the main battery compartment securely.

Step 8: Secure and Lock Additional Battery

  • Insert the additional battery into the housing by sliding it backward into place.
  • Locate the power switch on the battery, marked with “O” (off) and “I” (on). Flip the switch to “I” to turn the battery on.

Step 9: Test the System

  • To verify both batteries are properly connected, turn one battery off and power on your bike.
  • Then turn the other battery on and the first battery off.

If the display remains powered during the switch, both batteries are correctly connected and functioning.

Step 10: Charge the Batteries

  • Charge both batteries fully before your first ride.

How to Charge the Batteries

To ensure long battery life and consistent performance, always charge both batteries fully before your first ride and after each long trip.

  1. Turn both batteries off by switching them to the “O” position.
  2. Connect each battery to its own charger — the system does not charge both batteries through a single port.
  3. For MOD Easy:
    • The charging port at the bottom of the tank charges the interior (main) battery only.
    • The exterior battery must be charged separately using its own charging port.
  4. Wait until the charger indicator light turns green, meaning charging is complete.
  5. Unplug the chargers and switch both batteries back to “I” (on) before riding.

 Troubleshooting

  • Bike won’t power on after installation → Ensure additional battery is switched to the “I” (on) position. Double-check that all connectors are fully seated — especially the OUT cable from the dual battery connector to the controller.
  • Battery indicator drops suddenly → This may happen if one battery is turned off or has fully discharged. Confirm that both batteries are powered on to maintain balanced performance and stable readings.
  • Bike loses power intermittently → Inspect both battery harnesses and the dual connector for loose or bent pins. Ensure both batteries are locked firmly into place and the connectors are clean.
  • One battery won’t charge → Each battery must be charged separately using its own charger. On the MOD Easy, the charging port at the bottom only charges the interior (main) battery — the exterior battery must be charged individually through its own port. Inspect charging ports for debris and verify charger connections are secure.

⚠️ Note: Always turn both batteries off before connecting or disconnecting any cables to prevent short circuits or damage to the controller.

FAQs

  • Do both batteries drain at the same time?
Yes. When the Dual Battery Kit is connected, both batteries discharge simultaneously for maximum range and balanced performance.
  • Can I choose to use one battery at a time?
Yes. Simply turn one battery’s power switch to “O” (off) and keep the other on. When the first battery runs out, switch it off and turn the second one on to continue riding.
  • Can I charge both batteries at once?
Yes, but each battery must be connected to its own charger. The system does not charge both through a single charging port.
  • Will adding a second battery affect performance or speed?
No. The Dual Battery Kit increases your total range but does not change the bike’s top speed or motor output.
  • How can I tell if both batteries are active and properly connected?
To verify connection, turn one battery off and power on your bike. Then turn the other battery on and the first battery off. If the display stays on during the switch, both batteries are properly connected and functioning.
  • What happens if one battery fails during a ride?
The system automatically isolates the failed battery and continues running from the other, so you won’t lose power.
  • Can I ride with only one battery installed?
Yes. The system will function normally with a single battery connected.
