Installing the Front Basket

w/ Easy headlight example

Congrats on your new purchase of the MOD Easy bike with the Front Basket accessory! As you've probably noticed by now, that Cafe Racer headlight is pretty awesome, but it's pretty big and looks like it's not going to work with the front basket! We've created a guide to walk you through how to reattach the headlight to the basket itself, so you'll have full functionality of both amazing accessories.

Out of the box

Your front basket will come with two quick-release levers threaded through the connection points. These will be used to attach the basket to the brackets located on the head tube of the Easy. Since the headlamp and the front basket occupy the same space on the front of your bike, it is necessary to move your headlamp to the mount on the underside of your basket.

Remove the Headlamp

First, remove the light from the fork by unbolting it from the bracket. Follow the cable coming from the light to the main wire harness. This will require the removal of the zipper sleeve on the cable harness as well as any zip-ties securing the headlamp cable to the main stalk.  Once you've freed the cable, disconnect the julet connectors, exposing the red tip as shown below.

Using a 14mm wrench, hold the head of the bolt and with a 13mm wrench, remove the nut. Once the bolt is removed there will be three washers that will come out at the same time; set these aside.

Now half of the headlamp bracket is still connected to the top of the fork. Using a 5mm Allen wrench and a 10mm socket or open-end wrench; be mindful as you loosen this bolt for the fender is mounted to the same connection point. Once the bracket is removed you will be able to feed the bolt through the original hole to re-secure the fender. Set the headlamp aside as we go through attaching the basket to the bike.

Attach the Headlamp

Remove the two quick-release(QR) bolts from the basket. Lift the lever side to unlock the QR. With the other hand, loosen the nut on the opposite side. Once the bolts are removed, find the screw provided with the front basket and grab the headlamp with the U-brackets and bolt; then move to the bottom of the basket.

Located on the underside is a connection point that already has a bolt running through it. This is the connection point you will be using; remove the nut and bolt. Using the screw the basket came with, attach the U-bracket to the basket shown in the photos below

Once the U-bracket is in place on the underside of the front basket, attach the headlight by inserting the headlight bolt through the U-bracket on the basket and the headlight itself. Your headlight should now look like the photos below.

Attach the Basket

To attach the basket to the frame you will need to remove the two quick-release bolts from the basket. To do so, hold the lever side with one hand and rotate the nut side with your other hand. Once the bolts are removed you will be able to slide the basket into position as shown below.

Once the basket is in place, insert a QR bolt through the top connection points. Loosely secure the QR. Repeat these steps to install the other QR. The levers should be on opposite sides of the basket, with the upper one on the same side as the main cable harness. Once both QR's are in place, tighten the bolt side of each to roughly 85%. Lock the lever side of each QR to tighten up the remain 15%; be sure the QR lever on top is facing down when tightened, and vise versa for the bottom QR lever.

Verify the security of the QR's by placing both hands on either side of the basket and twisting. There should be no movement; if there is movement you will want to open the quick-release lever, tighten the nut more and re-secure the lever. Repeat until there is no movement.

Connect your Headlight

The final step is to attach the headlamp to the main wire. Locate the red female julet connector and attach the male cable end, ensuring you line up the arrows. Test the lamp is working correctly. Turn on the bike by pressing and holding the "i" button on the control panel. With the bike on, press the "+" button on the control panel.  This should turn on both of the lights. If the front light is not coming on make sure to check that the plug is fully connected.  If it is completely connected and not turning on please let us know by submitting a request here. Now that the headlamp works you are ready to ride but don't forget to put the zipper pouch back around the wires.
